Introduction to Dragon Dance (fire dragon)
Applicant: Nanxiong City, Guangdong Province
The fragrant dragon in Nanxiong City of Guangdong Province originated from baishupian village of Baishun town and spread around Baishun town. Every year during the Lantern Festival or other major celebrations, the fragrant fire dragon in baizhupian village is ceremoniously on the stage; and the skills of weaving and dragon dancing are handed down from generation to generation, and now the young and middle-aged people in the village can master them skillfully. Therefore, the village is known as the "fire dragon" village.
The incense fire dragon is made of straw, which can be divided into male dragon and female dragon. The male dragon is 9.9 meters long and the female dragon is about 9 meters long. Each dragon weighs about 29 kg.
Every year, the Lantern Festival is a happy day for the dragon to "raise its head", which is called "naochun" by the local people. After nightfall, on the edge of the open threshing ground, 18 dancers nervously and orderly burned incense and inserted incense for the grass dragon at the same time. In about 15 minutes, 1600-1800 incense sticks were put on the two dragons respectively. After inserting incense, the grass dragon was covered with incense, like a twinkling star. At this time, the sound of gongs and drums and firecrackers sounded. A dancer danced a dragon ball (fireball) in the center of the venue to lure the two dragons into the arena. The two dancers held up the male dragon and the female dragon to perform the routines of "double dragon playing with the ball", "jumping dragon", "double dragon going out to sea" and "traveling around the world". In the night, I saw two incense dragons flying up and down, competing for splendor, but incense was not seen.
