Zheng is an ancient plucked string instrument widely spread among the people. In the process of its popularity, it combines with local folk songs, rap, opera and other folk music to form various local schools with different phonological characteristics and performance techniques. In modern times, there are some representative schools of Guzheng performance, especially in Henan, Shandong, Chaozhou, Hakka and Zhejiang.

Shandong Guzheng music performance art is one of the most influential guzheng schools in China. It is mainly spread in Mudan District, yuncheng county, juancheng county and surrounding areas of Heze City, Shandong Province, and Linqing City and surrounding areas of Liaocheng City. Guzheng music in Shandong has a long history. It is said that in the Western Han Dynasty, there were Guzheng music such as "Autumn Moon in Han Palace" and "self sighing of Yin Gong". In the Ming Dynasty, Zheng was widely popular in Southwest Shandong, and its playing skills also developed greatly. After entering the Qing Dynasty, zheng music has become a part of people's life in Heze and other places. For a time, there was a popular saying that "most of the big families in the city have zither, and every village outside the city has zither.".

In the long-term spread process, Shandong Guzheng music gradually formed a gorgeous soft, vigorous and bright artistic characteristics. According to its form and style, it can be divided into two categories: one is classical music, commonly known as "Da Ban Zheng", which adopts the structure of "Ba ban ti", with elegant tone, rigorous structure and distinct rhythm. Most of them have distinctive themes and profound ideological content. The representative repertoire includes "Autumn Moon in Han Palace", "high mountains and flowing water", etc.; the other is Xiao Ban Zheng, which is based on local rap and folk songs in modern times It is mainly popular in Heze area. The representative repertoire includes Fengxiang song and tiantiantong. Heze has ten sets of classical Zheng music and more than 200 pieces of small banqu.

Shandong Guzheng music is closely linked with the development history of Heze and other places, and has become an important part of the local culture in Southwest Shandong, which has high historical and cultural research value. In recent years, due to the loss and variation of traditional culture, the living space of Guzheng music has become more and more narrow. In addition, some accomplished guzheng performers have died one after another, and many excellent traditional repertoire and performance skills have not been passed on in time.
