Wedding custom (Korean Hui wedding)
Applicant: Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province
Hui wedding is a popular traditional folk gift in Yanbian Korean area to commemorate the 60th anniversary of marriage. Hui wedding, like Huajia banquet, was formed from the middle of the 17th century to the middle of the 18th century. In the concept of Korean ancestors, the samsara of "sixty Jiazi" is called "Zhoujia" or "Huijia". Zhoujia has become a special concept of time, which contains the meaning of long-term and auspicious. The wedding is more grand than the ordinary wedding. On this day, the old couple dressed in wedding costumes held the ceremony of laying a goose, paying homage to each other, and holding a wedding ceremony in the courtyard. Then they entered the house to enjoy the grand table (wedding banquet) and received the blessing and congratulations from their descendants and the men, women and children in the village. Next, the "bridegroom and bride" respectively sat in the sedan chair, and paraded around the village surrounded by relatives and friends. The atmosphere was festive and warm.
Among the Korean people, being able to hold a wedding is a symbol of honor and high morality. Not everyone is entitled to enjoy this traditional custom. First of all, the marriage age of husband and wife must reach 60 years, and they must be loyal to love, healthy and long-lived, harmonious family, healthy offspring and abide by the law. In addition, there are two conditions: first, they must be the original couple; second, their children must be alive, and there are no criminals. Therefore, Hui wedding fully reflects the social ethics and values of Korean people advocating family harmony and interpersonal harmony.
Hui wedding is one of the unique important life rituals of Korean people. It is of great value to study the characteristics of Korean folk culture and the evolution process of national social culture.
