Temple Fair (Jiuhuashan Temple Fair)

Applicant: Jiuhua Mountain scenic spot, Chizhou City, Anhui Province

Jiuhuashan temple fair is a traditional folk cultural space for worshiping Bodhisattvas in Chizhou City, Anhui Province.

Jiuhua Mountain is famous for its beautiful natural landscape and rich Buddhist cultural tradition. At the end of the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty, Jin qiaojue, a new Buddhist monk, crossed the sea and came to Jiuhua Mountain to practice. After his death, he was revered as the incarnation of Bodhisattva dizang. Since then, Buddhist monks and local people held grand sacrificial ceremonies on July 30 of the lunar calendar, and gradually formed Jiuhua Mountain Temple Fairs: Buddha's birthday (the eighth day of April of the lunar calendar), ziwanri (the fifteenth day of July of the lunar calendar), dizang's birthday (the thirtieth day of July of the lunar calendar) held "Buddha Bathing ceremony", "Yulan basin ceremony" and "Dayang ceremony", which were jointly held by folk and temples on October 15 of the lunar calendar In the "Yinji meeting", pilgrims from all over the world worshiped devoutly, and business transactions gathered to form a market.

Jiuhuashan temple fair is mainly about surrendering the dead, praying for peace and the well-being of all living beings. At the same time, local people held "Dragon Dance" and "Lion Dance" activities, and performed Nuo ceremony programs such as "Mu Lian saves his mother", "Jiu Geng Tian" and "Liu Wenlong" for several days.
