Regong June Festival is a popular large-scale sacrificial performance among Tibetan and Tu people. It is popular in Tongren County, Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is held from June 17 to June 25 of the lunar calendar every year. There are more than 50 villages holding the festival.
Regong June Festival is a unique traditional cultural festival of Tibetan villages in Tongren County, Qinghai Province. It has been spread for more than 1400 years, and its way of offering sacrifices to gods is unique in the whole Tibetan area. There are two related legends about the origin of Regong June meeting. First, in order to celebrate the coming of peace, the Tubo general who guarded the local area kowtowed to the local patrons from June 16 to 25 of that year and offered sacrifices ceremoniously, which developed into the Regong June meeting. Second, at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, a mixed army of Mongolian and Han people in the Yuan Dynasty accepted the recruitment of the Ming Dynasty in the Longwu River Valley and worked as a farmer.
In order to celebrate peace and tranquility, they held a grand ceremony, praying for disaster relief and food abundance. The Regong June meeting developed from then on. There will be a fixed period of time in June, which is from June 17 to 25 of the lunar calendar. The formal participants were all men and young unmarried girls, while the others were onlookers. There are many kinds of programs in June, and the atmosphere is warm and solemn. The specific schedule includes not only simmer mulberry, invite God, dragon drum, dance and sacrifice, but also shangkoubao, Kaishan, sketch and folk song.
In June, song and dance performances run through from beginning to end, which are mainly divided into three categories: "lashiza" (divine dance), "lashiza" (Dragon Dance) and "moheze" (Military Dance), showing diversity in different villages. Regong June Festival has a strong traditional cultural characteristics. It integrates ceremony, celebration, song and dance, and folk opera performance. It has research value in art, religion, anthropology, folklore, and culture.
