Longyou county annals of the Ming Dynasty has a reputation of "burning more paper, paper is better than other counties", which has a history of more than 1400 years.

Longyou paper is mainly made of Shanya skin, wild cotton skin and Green Sandalwood skin. There are two processes and more than 30 processes. The first is the production process of leather materials, which mainly includes cutting, steaming, peeling, steaming, washing, spreading, drying, making leather blanks, tearing, steaming, kneading, extruding, spreading, washing, beating, selecting, washing, drying, bagging and other processes; the second is the production process of finished products, which includes pressing materials, putting leather materials into trough, rowing trough, adding juice, stirring, fishing paper, pressing paper, baking paper, checking paper, cutting paper, packaging and other processes Preface. More than 50 kinds of tools with different functions are needed in the production, such as Jishan knife, shaving knife, guillotine, steamer, paper curtain, curtain bed, slot angle and so on.

Longyou paper production process depends on the visual observation and hand experience of craftsmen. For example, the depth of the curtain bed into the pool and the size of the spray in the paper fishing process can only be operated by eyes and hands, so as to determine the quality of the finished paper. More than 30 kinds of paper, such as Huaxian paper, paper, national color paper and special paper, can be produced by using the technique of making leather paper. They are not only used in calligraphy and painting, but also used in binding and packaging.

The folk workshops in the southern mountainous area of Longyou county still preserve the complete craft of hand-made Shanya paper and wild cotton paper. A few inheritors such as Wan Aizhu still guard this ancient craft, but the scale is small and needs to be protected urgently.
