The skills of building Russian houses in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region were introduced when the Russians moved to Tacheng and other areas in the first year of Xianfeng (1851) of Qing Dynasty. For more than 150 years, according to the geographical environment and climatic conditions of Xinjiang, the Russian people have absorbed the culture of Uygur, Kazak and other nationalities, and learned from the architectural skills of the Han nationality to develop a unique Russian residential construction technology, which has become an important part of the architectural technology of Chinese ethnic minorities.

The characteristics of the Russian residential construction technology in Xinjiang are most obvious in the housing structure and decoration style. Most of the dwellings built with this technique are of brick and wood structure, and some of them are of pure wood structure. Houses are generally built tall, spacious, conducive to air circulation, with the characteristics of warm in winter and cool in summer.
