Yazhou folk song is an ancient folk song in Hainan. According to the legend of old artists and the analysis of the remains of traditional folk songs, it is found that the origins of Yazhou folk songs are mainly in the villages of leluo and Huangliu (now the towns of leluo and Huangliu in Ledong Li Autonomous County). Yazhou folk songs began to grow, evolve and enrich in the Han Dynasty, and reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty. A large number of long song albums appeared. At present, more than 70 pieces of them, about 2.7 million words, have been collected.

Yazhou folk songs are rich in content and have a wide range of subjects, from human history, natural scenery to production, labor and social life. Among them, more than 20 Lyric Songs (commonly known as "dachaoge"), such as the song of the poor Zhinu, the song of Zhang Sheng and the song of Liang Sheng, are treasures of Yazhou folk songs, which are widely spread in the local area. Yazhou folk songs have beautiful lyrics. Their tunes mainly include LADA tune, tender tune, Hetan tune, Dachao tune, cradle tune, etc. the lyrics are mostly seven character, and they are good at using Fu, Bi, Xing and other artistic techniques.

Yazhou was a place where high-ranking officials were relegated in history. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, more than ten famous officials were relegated to Yazhou, such as Wei Zhiyi, Ding Wei, Lu duoxun, Zhao Ding, Hu Quan, etc. They devoted themselves to spreading the Central Plains culture in the Institute of demotion. Influenced by it, Yazhou folk songs obviously bear the brand of Tang poetry and Song Ci. In addition, Yazhou folk songs also have obvious traces of Buddhist "zhaige". Buddhism was introduced into Hainan in the Tang Dynasty, and Dayun temple was established in guyazhou (now Sanya City). The Hetan tune of Yazhou folk songs comes from "zhaige", which is related to chanting in temples.

Yazhou folk songs are loved by the local people, and they are their important spiritual food. For a long time, they have been handed down from generation to generation by means of oral and psychological teaching. Yazhou folk songs also have important historical value. They have a long history and reflect the contents of Yazhou history. Since the reform and opening up, the trend of modernization has been constantly impacting the rapid economic development of Hainan. In this case, Yazhou folk song is difficult to compete with the surging pop music. If it is not rescued and protected in time, it will eventually disappear with the departure of the inheritor.
