Temple of heaven
The temple of heaven, the first temple in Taiwan, is also called Tainan Temple of heaven. Local residents, commonly known as Tiangong temple, are located in the central and Western District of Tainan City, Taiwan. The present site is a Taoist temple dedicated to the Jade Emperor.
The original site of the temple was originally a flat open space for Zheng Dynasty government officials to worship zhengshuo of the Ming Dynasty and build a platform to pray to heaven. In 1854, the temple was built at the original site of worshipping heaven. The appearance and names of the existing temples in Tainan Temple of heaven have been used since 1893. In 1985, the temple was designated as a class III historic site by the Taiwan government.
