Brocade skills of Miao Nationality
Applicant: Kaili City, Guizhou Province
Kaili City in Guizhou Province is the county-level administrative region with the largest number of Miao people in China. Except for urban blocks, there are natural villages inhabited by Miao people everywhere. Before the 1990s, brocade was popular in these villages.
Kaili Miao brocade used to be made of hemp and silk, but now it is made of cotton and silk. Some of them are made of cotton and silk. Silk brocade made of silk is the top grade. The best silk brocade is the strap silk brocade of "zhongskirt Miao" in Zhouxi. It uses fine silk, with a high precision of 60 warp and 90 weft per square centimeter. It feels soft and smooth, and the pattern is bright and exquisite.
Kaili Miao brocade is rich in patterns, including animal pattern, plant pattern, celestial pattern, utensil pattern, geometric pattern and so on. The animal and plant patterns are mostly like nature, which are exaggerated, vivid and vivid after the abstract simplification and deformation treatment; or the distinctive parts, such as head, horn, foot, claw, eye and hair rotation, are taken to symbolize the animal itself, which can be described as unique, especially the frequent and reasonable use of diamond pattern, which makes the composition rigorous, regular, full and symmetrical. In addition, with exquisite craftsmanship and exquisite craftsmanship, the design is more concise and bright, unified and harmonious, beautiful and generous, with high aesthetic value and excellent decorative effect.
At present, the traditional brocade technique of Kaili Miao nationality is facing the crisis of no successor. The main reason is that young women are either busy studying for exams or working outside to earn money. Their ideas have changed and they are not willing to learn the complicated and time-consuming brocade.
