Introduction to batik Technology:
Applicant: Anshun City, Guizhou Province
Anshun City, Guizhou Province, has a long history of batik, as early as the spring and Autumn period, the residents here have mastered the batik production process. In 1987, the Song Dynasty batik clothes and skirts were excavated from the coffin tombs of the Miao people in Pingba County, Anshun City. The colorful and rigorous patterns fully demonstrate the superb skills of Anshun batik.
Anshun batik is mainly divided into Miao batik and Buyi batik. Miao batik is distributed in 38 branches of Miao Nationality in Anshun. The patterns are rich and colorful, including ancient legends and primitive cognition. It reflects the ancient ancestors' consciousness of nature worship and totem worship. Buyi batik is mainly distributed in Zhenning, Guanling, Huangguoshu and other counties. The finished products are ingenious in composition and changeable. The patterns are mostly realistic flowers, birds, fish and insects or abstract geometric figures such as spiral, water wave, diamond, cloud and thunder, which show people's cognition of the universe, respect for natural mountains and rivers, and pursuit of a better life.
In addition to different patterns, Anshun Miao batik and Buyi batik have basically the same production tools, raw materials and technological process. They are both made of copper wax knife dipped in wax liquid, and then they sketch patterns on white cloth, and then they are made into batik products through dip dyeing and other processes. There are many folk craftsmen with excellent wax painting skills in Anshun wax printing industry. They have gone to Europe, America and Taiwan to perform their wax printing skills, and won praise everywhere they went.
Anshun batik is a wonderful work in ethnic crafts, which has high research value in history, folklore and local culture of ethnic minorities. In recent years, with the increasing trend of economic globalization and cultural diversity, the living space of Anshun batik is shrinking day by day, the craftsmen are aging, and there is no one to inherit. This valuable folk handicraft is on the verge of extinction, which needs urgent rescue and protection.
