Shage opera man is named for placing clay figures made by various techniques in the wooden pavilion covered by Bisha.
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, shage opera people were popular in Jinzhong Area. Shage opera man, now in qingxuguan, Pingyao County, Shanxi Province, is the work of Xu Liting, a folk artist in Liuhe Zhai, Pingyao paper shop, in 1906. At that time, the price of each pavilion was 2000 Wen. Originally 36 pavilions, the existing 28 pavilions, there are more than 100 different shapes of drama characters. In each 70 cm high wooden pavilion stage, there are three or four 50 cm high theatrical figures. They are literate, martial, sitting and standing. They are pure and ugly. They are beautiful in shape, vivid in appearance and lifelike in costumes. Choose the highlights of the play to show the scenes of the moment, some open their mouths and sing, some fight with guns and knives, the props are exquisite, funny and fascinating. The banners in the pavilion are inscribed with the names of the plays, and some of them are carved on the floor of the wooden pavilion. Shage opera people are generally funded by ticket companies and produced by famous folk artists. During the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, it is specially displayed on both sides of the inner passageway of Jinjing building in the center of the county for tourists to watch.
The production of Sha Ge opera people can only be completed through the process of conceiving drama scenes, designing stage scenes, building wooden pavilions and partitions, and wall decoration. During the production, the raw materials are scattered gold Xuan paper, silver foil, raw silk, clay, wood, sorghum stalk, cereal grass, silk, fur, cotton cloth, hemp rope, etc., and the production tools are brush, scissors, carving knife, pliers, etc., which are used to build the skeleton, set posture, make mud head and limbs, draw facial makeup, install head and limbs, put clothes on the players, paste carved or painted, and draw cloth Scenery, add props, etc. The pigments used are mineral pigments, etc., which are gorgeous and not easy to fade.
With its unique style, vivid modeling and complexity of production technology, shage opera people have become a rare material for the study of traditional folk art and drama art.
