Introduction to nuclear carving (Guangfu nuclear carving)
Applicant: Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province
Nuclear carving is a traditional folk craft of carving walnut shell and various kinds of core, which has been popular in North and South China for a long time. As early as the Neolithic age, China's carving technology has made great achievements, and nuclear carving is the further development of this technology. According to the description of the nuclear boat in the late Ming Dynasty, the nuclear carving technique has reached a very high level in the Ming Dynasty. Taking walnut shell, peach kernel, olive kernel, apricot kernel, cherry kernel and some other dense fruit kernels as raw materials, nuclear carving uses the natural shape and ups and downs of walnut shell or kernel, carving, carving, filing, chiseling, drilling and other techniques to carve various characters, flowers and birds, animals and insects, landscapes, boats, pavilions, etc. Folk nuclear carvings are often carved all over the body, with systematic layout, careful and rigorous, smooth and neat knife technique, vivid and subtle image, and no trace of carving. It can be said that the body is exquisite and superb, so as to win the reputation of "ghost Craftsmanship". The art of nuclear carving in Jiangsu, Shandong and Guangdong has formed a certain tradition in the process of long-term spread. The nuclear carving works have their own characteristics and have always been loved by the world.
Guangfu stone carving is a kind of traditional carving art with stone as material, which is mainly popular in Suzhou area of Jiangsu Province, and originated in Guangfu town and Zhoushan village of Xiangshan street of Suzhou city. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Suzhou nuclear carving reached a high artistic level. The story of nuclear boat written by Wei Xue in the late Ming Dynasty vividly describes all aspects of Wang Shuyuan's peach stone carving "Dongpo you Chibi" in Tianqi period, which is known as "the material of spirits and monsters"; in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, the peach stone carving "Dongpo you Chibi" carved by Suzhou micro sculptor Du Shiyuan was called "ghost work" at that time. Guangfu stone carving is mainly made of hard and delicate Guangdong Wuhang olive core. Its shape basically keeps the original shape of the fruit core, including bead string style, falling piece style and ornament style. Its theme covers fairy characters, folk stories, folk life, landscape architecture, etc. Guangfu nuclear carving technology is exquisite, the lines are clear, the three-dimensional sense is strong, the image depiction is vivid, reflecting the Suzhou carving "fine, fine, strange, skillful" skill tradition. After a long period of decline, due to the reform and opening up, nuclear carving in Suzhou has a trend of recovery, there are some excellent artists, but there are not many young people, less skilled. It is urgent to strengthen measures to promote the revitalization and development of Guangfu nuclear carving.
