The carving paper-cut popular in Ezhou of Hubei Province is a traditional folk decorative art. The development of carving paper-cut in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty was recorded in Wuchang county annals in the early years. In 1885, Echeng began to form a carving and paper-cut industry with apprenticeship, specializing in pattern production and sale. In 1935, Echeng pattern paper-cut trade union was founded, with Dai Hansheng and Liao Yunpeng as the leaders, with 150 members. The activities of paper-cut artists spread all over the surrounding five provinces, forming a large-scale paper-cut industry in the vast area with Ezhou as the center. Ezhou carving and paper-cut artists carry pattern boxes on their backs, hand-held drummers and sell "patterns" from village to village.

Ezhou carved paper-cut is an important carrier of local folk customs in Hubei Province. Its theme covers all aspects of life and shows distinctive regional characteristics. These carved paper-cut mainly include Hat Flower, shoe flower, slipper flower, sole flower, buckle flower, vest flower, pocket flower, bib flower, pillow flower, curtain edge flower and other varieties. In the process of creation, knife and scissors are used. The composition of the finished works is symmetrical, the style is smooth and delicate, vivid and vivid, integrating practicality and decoration. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Yanji, Huarong and other places, known as "pattern Wozi", set up mutual aid groups for carving and paper-cut, and successively created more than 2000 kinds of paper-cut patterns.

In recent years, Ezhou carving and paper-cut artists are old and few are alive. Carved paper-cut, an ancient folk art flower, is dying and almost lost, which is in urgent need of protection.
