Guangling County, Datong City, located in the northeast of Shanxi Province, is known as "the Pearl on the plug". Guangling dyeing paper-cut is unique in its bright colors, vivid shapes, fine lines, vivid expression and delicate knife technique. Guangling dyeing paper-cut has a long history. According to research, it took shape in the early Tang Dynasty and formed a unique style in the Ming Dynasty.

Guangling dyeing paper-cut is mainly made by knife cutting dyeing technique. It needs to go through multiple processes such as design, fumigation, carving, cutting and dyeing. According to its forms of expression, it can be divided into three types: Yang cutting, Yin cutting, folding, dyeing, overprinting, washing and monochrome.
