Introduction to Lu'an Dagu

Applicant: Changzhi City, Shanxi Province

Lu'an Dagu is a traditional form of Gushu and Guqu with distinctive regional characteristics in the north, also known as "Lu'an laodiao". It is popular in the ancient Lu'an prefecture (now Changzhi, Shanxi Province), and also known as "ganbanqiang" and "Lu'an Gushu". As early as the third year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, Lu Zhanyuan, Dong Xiangwu and other well-known drummers in Shangdang area contacted more than 100 artists in eight counties of Lu'an prefecture to set up the "blind children team", namely the troupe of drummers' performance activities. Later, they developed into the guild organization "sanhuanghui". Therefore, it is generally believed that Lu'an drum had been formed at the latest in the middle of Qing Dynasty. In the early stage, the artists were mainly blind, and then there were Mingmu people. Since the 1950s, there have been female artists. The traditional Lu'an drum performance is that many people hold the drum board, Sanxian, erhu, low Hu, etc., and then rap in a circle; after walking on the high stage, one person usually knocks the drum board to stand and rap, and there is a special person to accompany Sanxian and erhu. Its singing music is plate style, rich in melody, beautiful melody and rich in local flavor. Traditional programs include "dadengzhou", "broken Mengzhou", "yanwang swept North", "qiaolianzhu", "qiaoqiyuan", "humble wife" and so on. Gao Fushu and Yu Shutian are famous artists with great influence.

Since the end of the 20th century, the inheritance and development of Lu'an Dagu has encountered unprecedented difficulties, and it is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
