Introduction to Huai Opera:

Applicant: Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province

Taizhou is an important birthplace of Huai opera. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, there were Jianghuai opera troupes in Taizhou. In the 1950s, Taizhou Huai opera troupe was officially established to undertake the task of inheritance and development of Huai opera. The repertoire created by Taizhou Huai opera company has been shown on CCTV for many times, and the repertoire "Banqiao for examination", "Xianglinsao" and "director of letters and visits" are well received by experts and audiences.

In 2003, the cast of Xianglinsao performed in Beijing. Chen Cheng, a famous young actor of Huai opera, won the 21st "plum blossom Award" of Chinese drama. Chen Delin and Huang Suping successively won the Shanghai "Magnolia" outstanding leading role award. The costume drama "double jade cicada", starring Wei Xifeng and shot by Jiangsu TV station, won the second prize of the seventh national popular TV Golden Eagle Award. The troupe participated in the Sixth China Art Festival, the Fifth Shanghai International Art Festival, and the first to fifth Huaiju Opera Festival in Jiangsu Province, and won many awards. It has become a strong force of Huai opera with Shanghai Huai Opera Troupe and Jiangsu Huai Opera Troupe.
