Hunan shadow play has a long history and is widely spread in Hunan. Most of its filmmakers are "paper pairs". They absorb the essence of folk art such as paper cutting, painting and carving in the shadow making. They are rich in carving methods, combined with virtual reality, simplified in appearance and beautiful in appearance.

Hunan shadow play has a complete range of roles, and each role can be further classified. For example, danjiao can be subdivided into Qingyi, Huadan, daomadian and so on. The performance is delicate and vivid with strong movement. There are hundreds of traditional plays of Hunan shadow play. Hunan puppet shadow play art theater established in the 1950s inherits the artistic tradition of Hunan shadow play. For more than half a century, it has created and performed a variety of excellent plays that have won international and domestic awards. Among them, "turtle and crane", "two friends" and other works are highly praised by all walks of life and become the reserved plays of the theater.
