Jinan shadow play is a branch of Shandong shadow play, which is mainly distributed in Shandong Province, but also in Hebei, Henan, Anhui and other places. Shandong shadow play has a history of at least 500 years. In the late Qing Dynasty, artist Zhang Shengwang specialized in performing shadow play, which was called "Lanzhou shadow play" at that time. Li Keao, his apprentice, brought the shadow puppet from Zou County to Jinan in 1915. With the inheritance and development of Li Fuzheng, Li Xingtang and Li Xingshi, Jinan shadow puppet with distinctive regional characteristics was gradually formed.

Jinan shadow play performance is full of sound and emotion, with one person in charge of operation and rap, and one person in charge of accompaniment. In the early stage of singing, it adopted the monk's voice of persuading the good and chanting scriptures, and then on this basis, it absorbed traditional opera music such as Wuyin opera, Xihe Dagu, Shandong Qinshu, etc., forming a fresh and smooth melody.

Although Jinan shadow play has a history of only more than 80 years, its performance form and artistic style have a far-reaching influence, and it has a unique research value of art history and regional culture.
