Chongqing University of Humanities and technology, the former Education College of Southwest University, was established in May 2000. In April 2013, approved by the Ministry of education, it was transformed into an independent undergraduate university, becoming the first and only private undergraduate university in Chongqing. At the beginning of 2013, the University was identified by the Ministry of education as one of the National Pilot Universities of Applied Technology University Strategic Research, and is actively creating a leading Applied Technology University in Western China with important influence in the country.

The school is located in Hechuan District of Chongqing City, covering an area of 2048 mu, with a building area of about 500000 square meters. The total value of teaching, scientific research and experimental training equipment is more than 100 million yuan. There are 114 experimental (training) rooms in the school, 92 training bases outside the school, and more than 2.86 million books. The university has set up 10 secondary colleges and 38 undergraduate majors, covering 10 first-class disciplines, with more than 18000 full-time students. At present, there are 1016 full-time teachers, 572 of whom have master's or doctor's degrees, accounting for 56.3%, and 399 of whom have professional and technical posts of deputy senior or above, accounting for 39.3%.

The school fully implements the party's education policy, deepens the reform of personnel training mode, and is committed to cultivating high-quality, high-level, management, application-oriented and technical talents. In recent years, teachers and students have won more than 300 awards in academic, scientific, artistic and sports competitions. Among them, the dance created by teachers and students went to Beijing to participate in the National Campus Spring Festival Gala hosted by China Education Television, and won two gold awards in editing, directing and performing. Over the years, the employment rate of graduates has remained above 90%. The employment contract signing rate of 2010 undergraduate graduates ranked first in Chongqing universities. More than 800 graduates have been admitted to graduate school, and more than 40% of them have been admitted to City University of Hong Kong, Beijing Normal University, Zhejiang University, Jilin University, East China Normal University and other famous universities.
