Xixiangdiao, originated in dachuandu, shuichuan Town, Baiyin District, Baiyin City, Gansu Province, is popular on both sides of the Yellow River and its surrounding areas. During his stay in Guozijian, Zhang Hailun, a member of dachuandu, wrote a song and dance ditty named xixiangdiao according to the production, life, hobbies and habits of people in Longzhong area, especially on both sides of the Yellow River. There are 27 kinds of tunes, which can be roughly divided into four types: narrative type, cheerful type, sad type and humorous type.

There are more than 30 plays in xixiangdiao, such as fishing boat, Yousi, giving umbrellas and Jiexiang. They use myths and legends to express people's yearning and aspiration in a romantic way, highlighting the simplicity, loyalty, kindness of the working people and the sincere love between men and women. No matter the tone is high or low, the singers can sing. The singing form is not limited by time and place. They can sing anytime and anywhere, and are deeply loved by the local people.

Xixiandiao was created in Guozijian, the highest institution of higher learning. It grew up on both sides of the Yellow River and deeply rooted in the folk. It has high historical value and cultural and artistic value.
