Beilu opera, commonly known as Fujian Luantan opera and hengshao opera, is a kind of local opera vocal opera formed by the integration of Luantan opera introduced into Fujian in the middle of Qing Dynasty and local folk opera. It was once popular in Northern Fujian, central Fujian and eastern Fujian, and has a history of more than 300 years. It is a rare opera representing Luantan opera in Qing Dynasty. After Luantan entered Fujian, there were Shanglu troupe, Xialu troupe, Beilu troupe and Nanlu troupe. Among them, Beilu troupe was the most powerful. After other troupes were disbanded one after another, Beilu troupe was still active in Northeast Fujian, hence the name of Beilu troupe.

In addition to a few high tune tunes, most of the tunes in Beilu opera belong to banqiang style, with beautiful melody, cheerful rhythm, smooth line and narrative performance. Its speech and singing are in Mandarin, which has become a prominent feature of Beilu opera. In hundreds of years of performance activities, Beilu opera has summed up a set of performance forms that are deeply loved by the audience. No matter what the role is, it uses hand, eye, body, method, step and other body language to express the character's personality and psychological activities, and promote the progress of the plot. This kind of strengthening of body action and externalization of the character's inner activities are closely combined with singing Harmony forms many performing art forms of singing and dancing, writing and martial arts, and enriches the expressive force of drama. The representative plays of Beilu opera mainly include tanyinshan, duizhuhuan, zhimaji, Fengjiao and Lidan, etc.

As one of the rare and influential operas in Fujian, Beilu opera has profound cultural connotation and high historical value.
