Sumu is the only returned overseas Chinese in the west of the autonomous region. Wentugaole commune was established in 1958 and changed to Sumu in 1984. In 1996, it covers an area of 15000 square kilometers and has a population of 04000, with the Mongolian nationality accounting for 68%. It governs two gachas, bayangole and Geriletu. In 2006, wentugaolesumu was abolished and merged into Dalai Hubu town. In early 2012, Geriletu and Bayan Gaole in Dalai Hubu town were designated as wentugaolesumu.
