Dazhe town

Dazhe town belongs to Pingyuan County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. It is the economic and cultural center of Pingyuan county. The town has a population of 87793 (2017).

On September 23, 2003, Chaozhu town was merged with Dazhe town. Later, Batou town was merged with Dazhe town. So far, the three towns were integrated into Dazhe Town, covering an area of 154.4 square kilometers (in 2017), with 28 Village (neighborhood) committees and 266 Village (neighborhood) groups under its jurisdiction.

In May 1945, during the Anti Japanese War, the national government of Guangdong Province moved to Pingyuan. Dazhe was once the temporary provincial government and the provincial Party headquarters of the Kuomintang. Dazhe town was set up in 1954, changed to district in 1955, changed to township in 1956, changed to commune in 1958, established by Dazhe commune in 1961, changed to district in 1983, and restored to Dazhe town after withdrawing Chaozhu Township in 1986. 206 National and provincial roads. Dazhe town was called panlongwei in ancient times, and changed its name to Dazhe Wei in the late Qing Dynasty. The origin of place names

There are many explanations for the origin of the place name of Dazhe: one is that it was named because there were many Zheshu trees growing in the old time; the other is that there were many oak trees growing. Because "Zheshu" and "Zheshu" are homophones, they are commonly known as "Zheshu". The latter is far fetched. In Shuangxi village, Hetou Town, which is about 5 kilometers away from Pingyuan County, Zhashu path is named because of the existence of Zheshu in the past. However, in Hakka dialect of both places, Zheshu is pronounced "CuO" instead of "Za".
