Heping District is a municipal district of Taichung City in Taiwan Province. It is located in the easternmost part of Taichung city. It has the largest area, the least population and the lowest population density. It is also the only Aboriginal District in Taichung city. It is also the only municipal district elected by the district people to elect the district head and the District People's representatives. It is also the largest and only municipal district with an area of more than 1000 square kilometers in Taiwan. Among all the townships, towns, and counties in Taiwan, Pengzhou, Jinma, its area ranks fourth in Taiwan. Located in the south of Xueshan mountain range, there is Dajia River running through. The climate in the west is temperate, and in the East is highland. The temperature is high in the West and low in the East.

In Heping District, the specialties are Ponkan, Gaojie pear and sweet persimmon; in the east of Heping District, apples, pears, peaches, alpine tea, high cold vegetables and honey are abundant, which are the main sources of high cold vegetables in Taiwan.

Historical evolution

During the Japanese occupation period, it belonged to the Tibetan area of Dongshi County in Taichung Prefecture, and the relevant business was managed by the police at that time. After the battle of Motianling, the Taiya Shuangqi community divided the whole area into three outer police areas (ambush, jiuliangqi and Jiayang), 19 police stations and 10 communities, forcing the aborigines to move in collectively for control.

In 1945, after the government of the Republic of China restored the territory of the governor's office of Taiwan, it was established as Heping Township, Dongshi District, Taichung County. Under the jurisdiction of Nanshi, Tianlun, fraternity, freedom, insight, zhongkeng, Lishan, equality eight villages. In March 1949, it merged with Xinyi township of Yushan district and Ren'ai township of NengGao District, and its jurisdiction was added as Zhongfeng district and changed into Heping township of Zhongfeng District of Taichung County. The following year, the county administrative region was adjusted and the district office was abolished, so it was changed into Heping township of Taichung County. In 1973, Lishan and egalitarian villages in Heping Township became independent Lishan construction administration bureau (under the jurisdiction of the province). On December 2, 1980, they returned to the jurisdiction of Heping township.

On December 25, 2010, due to the merger and upgrading of Taichung County and city, Taichung city was transformed into Heping District

On December 25, 2014, in line with the amendment of the local system law, the mountainous aboriginal areas of the municipalities directly under the central government were given the right of local autonomy, and Heping District was re transformed into a local autonomous organization with the status of public legal person.

Heping District is located in the mountainous area, which is divided into eight Li: pingili (Huanshan, Wuling), lishanli (Qingshan, Jiayang, Lishan), boaili (LiLang, Songhe, Guguan, Maling), tianlunli (bailing), nanshili (Heping District), zhongkengli (Daxueshan), zizili (Shuangqi, wushikeng), daguanli (xueshankeng, Motianling). According to the traffic route, it can be divided into three areas.

Topographical layout

High mountains: the territory is divided into snow mountain range and central mountain range, with mountains more than 2000-3000 meters densely distributed, and there are many peaks more than 3000 meters on the border. Valley, alluvial fan and terrace topography: this area is located in the middle and upper reaches of dajiaxi River, while in the northwest, zizili and daguanli are located in the middle and upper valleys of daanxi river. Hot spring: dajiaxiguguan hot spring and lileng hot spring pass: Siyuan pass is located at the boundary between Lanyang Valley and dajiaxigu. River attack: Hehuan River and qijiawan River in the upper reaches of Dajia River were captured by Lanyang river.
