Jiaokou Township

Jiaokou township is located in the southwest of Yonghe County, on the edge of the Yellow River, with sufficient sunshine time and high annual average temperature, which is very suitable for the growth of jujube trees, Chinese herbal medicine, grass and small and medium-sized cereals. The township governs 13 village committees, 48 natural villages and 61 villager groups, with a total population of 5820 (2017), 3825 labors and 311 party members. The total cultivated land area is 48600 mu, with a per capita of 5.1 mu.

Geography and geomorphology

Jiaokou township is located in the Middle East of Qinyuan County, at the eastern foot of Taiyue Mountain. It is surrounded by mountains, high in the northwest and low in the southeast. Mountains and hills account for 95.7% of the total area, and valley and hinterland only account for 4.3%. The average altitude is about 1400 meters. Qin County in the East, Qinhe town in the south, Liyuan Town in the West and Guodao town in the north. The township is located in the Loess Plateau, and its geographical unit is the main vein of Taiyue Mountain System in the Western uplift area of Qinshui Basin, with northwest uplift and Southeast dip, with an average altitude of about 1400m. The area is covered by rolling mountains, overlapping caicui mountains, mountains and hills accounting for 95.7% of the total area, and river valleys and terraces only accounting for 4.3%. It belongs to warm temperate continental monsoon climate zone, with mild climate, humid air, average temperature of 8.6 ℃, average annual relative humidity of 65%, average annual rainfall of 656.7mm, average annual temperature of 8.7 ℃, frost free period of 90-150 days and average annual sunshine hours of 2519 hours.

Historical evolution

Before 1983, it was baihuyao commune and Jiaokou commune. After 1983, it was baihuyao Township and Jiaokou township. In 2001, it was merged into Jiaokou Township until 2017.

The area is rich in forage resources, with a natural grazing slope area of 200000 mu, more than 100 types of forage and a livestock carrying capacity of 100000 sheep units. It is rich in water resources. The neiqin river runs through the north and south of Shanxi Province, with an average annual runoff of 50 million cubic meters. The total underground water reserves are 200 million cubic meters, and the available water is 1.5 million cubic meters. 
