Shimen town is under the jurisdiction of Yunlong County, Yunnan Province, with an urban area of 2.7 square kilometers and a total population of 12225 (in 2003).
Shimen town is located on both sides of the downstream of Shiwei river. It is a small market town surrounded by mountains. In 1929, the county government moved from Baofeng to Shimen. In 1949, the urban area was 0.15 square kilometers (including the Shiwei River in the residential area). The residents' houses were built in a ladder shape along the north slope of the Shiwei river. After 1950, it developed to the northwest. By 1989, the urban area had expanded to 2.7 square kilometers. The total population of Shimen town in 2003 is 12225 (including 6460 males and 5765 females).
