Xinji Town, formerly known as Xinji street, has been renamed Xinji street in May 2001, with jurisdiction over two neighborhood committees and 55 administrative villages. It has a population of 75195 and an area of 114.34 square kilometers.

In July 1951, the second district (old street) of Xinzhou county was established.
