The place name of Pengbao has a long history. Pengaobao was set up here in the Qing Dynasty, from which the place name of Pengbao evolved. Pengbao township was established in September 1949, which was under the jurisdiction of ShuiHe district. In July 1957, it was under the jurisdiction of Daying district. In September 1958, Wumo commune was established when the commune was transformed. In December of the same year, it was renamed Pengbao commune. Pengbao town is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Guyuan City. It is connected with touying town in the north, Zhonghe Township in the south, Yingying town and Qinghe town in the East and Shagou Township in Xiji County in the West.
