In June 1953, the West Liangwa township was built. In August 1958, it belonged to the super British commune. In 1961, ximaozhuang commune was founded. In June 1971, it was renamed xiliangwa commune. In December 1983, it was restored to xiliangwa township. In October 1996, donglitun township was incorporated. As of June 2020, xiliangwa township has jurisdiction over 18 administrative villages.
