Tree burial custom
Some have four or five on one tree, some have only one or two, which is like a beekeeper's nest. Most of the tree burials are minors under the age of 13. Tree coffins are usually made of fir wood, and some of them are made of cypress wood. The wood is inlaid with concave and convex, and fixed with bamboo nails around. Local people generally don't use round nails. As the saying goes, round nails will nail the soul and can't go beyond heaven. In general, those with high infant mortality in families hang wooden boxes at high places, while those with dead female babies hang at the bottom. Some cremate their bodies and put them in mud jars and then hang them on fir trees. the selection of tree burial sites is very strict. First, at the T-shaped intersection or crossroads, it symbolizes that people often accompany the dead; second, at the confluence of two or more rivers, the river flows into the heart of the dead like a mother's milk; third, the selected tree must grow on the grass dam at the intersection or the confluence center of the two rivers, and the tree must be thick and tall, with luxuriant branches and leaves, which symbolizes the prosperity of the people and successors.
