Mazu town was formerly known as Xinglongchang and LiangLuKou. It was established in 1951, changed to Xinglong commune in 1958, changed to LiangLuKou commune in 1960, changed to LiangLuKou Township in 1983, changed to LiangLuKou town in 1988, and renamed Mazu town in 2005. It got its name in memory of Mazu, a Buddhist celebrity in Tang Dynasty.
Mazu town is the hometown of famous Chinese Buddhist figure Mazu Daoyi, known as "Mazu hometown". It is one of the first pilot towns in Sichuan Province and one of the ten red flag towns in Sichuan Province.
On December 11, 2019, Sichuan Provincial People's Government approved Deyang City to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns and townships in five counties (cities, districts) including Jingyang district (Chuanfu Civil Affairs [2019] No. 15): Shuangsheng town was abolished and its administrative area was put under the jurisdiction of Mazu Town, which was located at No. 8, group 18, Qinglong village.
History of construction
Mazu town was formerly known as LiangLuKou and Xinglongchang. In 1950, Longxiang farmers association was established. In 1951, land reform was carried out and Xinglong Township People's government was established. In 1958, Xinglong Township was changed into Xinglong people's commune. In January 1960, Shifang county was merged with Guanghan County, and the name of Xinglong commune was changed to LiangLuKou commune. In 1983, the people's commune of LiangLuKou was abolished and changed into LiangLuKou Township, and the people's government was restored. In 1988, LiangLuKou township was removed and rebuilt into LiangLuKou town. On August 17, 2005, LiangLuKou town was officially renamed Mazu town.
