Geliping town is located in the west of Panzhihua City, bordering Daxing Township, Huaping County, Yunnan Province. Located on the North Bank of Jinsha River, it is named after Geliping, a large dam with an area of 1.5 square kilometers.

In the 1980s, it was known as "Little Hong Kong" in Panzhihua for its prosperous economy and rich cultural life. In 1994, it was under the jurisdiction of the Western District, which is the only town in the western district. Covering an area of 117.4 square kilometers, the town has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages, 57 agricultural cooperatives, 12 neighborhood committees and 84 resident groups. The total population of the town is more than 24000, of which the agricultural population is more than 10800. There are 14 ethnic minorities in the town, belonging to a multi-ethnic area. The town has a pleasant climate, warm in winter and cool in summer. The four seasons are not clear enough, and the rainfall is abundant. The lowest altitude is 894 meters, and the highest altitude is 2416 meters. The annual average temperature is 28.9 ℃, the extreme maximum temperature is 41 ℃, and the minimum temperature is o ℃, which is a typical tropical climate. Only 200 kilometers away from the ancient city of Lijiang, the highway leading to Lijiang is also under construction.

Geliping is rich in products, mainly producing papaya, mango, red heart fruit, olive, longan, litchi, grape, loquat and so on. It is a small town with many tropical fruits.
