Jiaxi town

Jiaxi Town, subordinate to Lufeng City, Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, is located in the southeast of Lufeng City, on the South Bank of the downstream of Aojiang River, adjacent to Jiazi town in the East, Nantang town in the west, Huilai County across the river in the north, and the West River and Aojiang River pass through the north and south sides of the town. South of the South China Sea, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, the coastline is about 11 kilometers long. The total area is 96.2 square kilometers. At the end of 2018, the registered residence of Jia Xi Town was 156429. As of June 2020, Jiaxi town has a total of 22 administrative villages.

In 1951, it merged with Jiadong as the eighth district. In 1996, Jiaxi set up a town instead of a township. Because Jiaxi town is located in the sea, it still retains many ancient cultural customs and etiquettes. Chaoshan English song and dance is a traditional folk program in Jiaxi. In June 2011, Lu Fengying's songs and dances were included in the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.

In 2018, there will be 32 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters in Jiaxi town.

Historical evolution

During the period of the Republic of China, Jiaxi belonged to Jiazi, and Jiaxi Township had been built and demolished.

In the early days after the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was divided into the Fifth District.

In 1951, it merged with Jiadong as the eighth district.

In 1956, it was changed into two urban areas.

In 1957, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged into Jiaxi township.

In 1958, the people's commune was established.

In March 1984, the society was abolished and divided into districts.

The origin of place names

Jiaxi is located in the west of Jiazi Town, so it is called Jiaxi.

Jiaxiying song and dance

Chaoshan Yingge dance is one of the dance forms of the Han nationality, popular in Shantou, Jieyang, Chaozhou, Shanwei and other places in Guangdong Province. Its main performance form is large-scale group dance. The dancers hold a short wooden stick in both hands and fight each other up, down, left and right, with vigorous and powerful movements and strong rhythm. After the dance, there are singing and dancing operas, which are called "Yingge houpeng". Yingge dance belongs to the Han nationality square emotional dance. Shanwei Fishing Song

Shanwei Fishing Song is a folk song sung by fishermen in the coastal area of Shanwei City in eastern Guangdong Province. Local fishermen are usually divided into land fishermen and sea fishermen, and sea fishermen are also divided into "tugboat" fishermen and "Ou boat" fishermen. The traditional Shanwei fishing songs refer to the songs sung by Ou boat fishermen. Ou boat fishermen are commonly known as "Danmin", so the fishing songs are also called "dange".
