Pingtan Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Huiyang District, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, is located in the central area of Huiyang District. Its central location is about 114 ° 3 'e, 23 ° n, Ma'an town in the west, Pingshan street of Huidong County in the East, Liangjing town in the south, Hengli Town in the north and Shuikou Town in the northwest. The total administrative area is 99.7 square kilometers. As of February 2020, the permanent population of Pingtan town is about 46900, and the floating population is about 5700. Pingtanwei was built in the Ming Dynasty. It was first called gulongwei (today's demonstration site), then xinbudian (today's Tianpu), and then developed into a market in the present pingtanwei location. Tongzhi nine years (1870), is a Tong'an about fort. In 1931, it belonged to the 14th District. In 1950, it belonged to Pingtan district (five districts). In January 1987, Pingtan was removed from district to town.
In 2018, the GDP of Pingtan town reached 1.873 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 9.3%; the added value of industries above designated size increased by 20.4%; the industrial and commercial tax was 133 million yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 26.5%; the total retail sales of social consumer goods was 831 million yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 10.7%; the actual foreign direct investment was 26 million yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 57.4%; the total import and export was 338 million yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 49.4%.
Historical evolution
Pingtanwei was built in the Ming Dynasty. It was first called gulongwei (today's demonstration site), then xinbudian (today's Tianpu), and then developed into a market in the present pingtanwei location. There used to be a pond with a water depth of 10 feet. There was a spring gushing out, which was like a flat pool. On both sides of the pool were small hills. Later, people dug and leveled the hills, filled the pool and built shops, so it was named Pingtan, later called Pingtan.

In 1931, it belonged to the 14th District.
From the 26th year of the Republic of China (1937) to the 36th year of the Republic of China (1947), it was under the jurisdiction of the third district (the district government was located in Hengli).

In 2018, Pingtan town promoted the expansion of Huizhou airport, the air cargo terminal and No.2 parking lot were put into use, the land acquisition agreement of Hehui Dongguan Expressway (Pingtan section) was signed by 92.66%, and the preliminary work of Huizhou Port Expressway (provincial highway 357) was carried out. We will promote the construction of "four good rural roads" and complete 33.4 kilometers of village road widening, repair and pavement hardening projects. Red onion is a seasoning vegetable crop, which has a long history of cultivation in Zhangxin village, Pingtan town. The annual planting area is more than 3000 mu, and the annual output reaches 12750 tons. The red onion produced in zhangxincun is bright red and beautiful in appearance, rich in texture, spicy and delicious.
Pueraria lobata is mainly distributed in Xinwei village, Pingtan Town, with annual planting area of 2000 mu and annual output of 6000 tons. Its production process is pollution-free, with high nutritional value and rich flavor.
Huaishan is mainly distributed in Xinwei village, Pingtan Town, with an annual planting area of more than 3000 mu and an annual output of 6000 tons. Xinwei village planting base produces "Xinhuai" brand of Huaishan, which is crisp, juicy and less fiber.
