In July 1953, dongbali township was established; in August 1958, dongbali township was incorporated into xinbaoan commune; in May 1984, dongbali commune was changed into dongbali township. By the end of 2018, the registered residence population in the East eight mile township was 10707. As of June 2020, dongbali village governs one community and six administrative villages, and the Township People's government is located in dongbali village.

In July 1953, dongbali township was established.

In August 1958, dongbali township was incorporated into xinbaoan commune.

In June 1961, dongbali commune was established from xinbaoan commune.

In May 1984, dongbali commune was changed into dongbali township.
