Historical evolution
More than 200 years ago, Wanqingsha area was called wuzhu ocean. Because it is located at the mouth of the Pearl River, the interaction of the East, West and North River runoff from the land and the South China Sea surge makes a large amount of sediment deposited in Humen, Jiaomen, Hengmen and hongqili four major sea outlets. Wanqingsha town was originally a shallow beach.
In 1838, the Ming Lun hall in Dongguan was reclaimed here, which means that in the great flood of the ocean, thousands of hectares of sandy land were created, hence the name of Wanqingsha town.
In 1953, together with Nansha, Longxue Island, Changsha village, Dahu mountain and Xiaohu mountain, it was designated as the Fourth District of Zhuhai county.
In 1954, daaosha, lixinsha and guanwasha, which were separated from Zhongshan County, were incorporated into the four districts of Zhuhai.
In the autumn of 1955, it was renamed Wanqingsha district.
In 1957, it was assigned to Zhongshan County and renamed Wanqingsha township.
In October 1958, it merged with Zhujiang farm to form Wanqingsha commune.
In January 1959, Zhujiang farm was separated and Huangge commune was merged; in April, Huangge was changed into Dagang commune; in July, it was divided into Panyu.
In March 1961, Nansha commune was established.
In 1984, it was a ten thousand hectare sand area.
