Mujiangping town is located in the east of Fenghuang County, 27 kilometers away from the county. In 2005, the administrative division was adjusted, and yuanmujiangping town and yuanqiaoxikou Township were merged to form the present Mujiangping town. The total administrative area of the town is 118.57 square kilometers (2017). The area of cultivated land is 16026 mu, including 11299 mu of paddy field and 4727 mu of dry land. The territory is high in the southeast and low in the southwest. The terrain is mainly mountainous, with an average altitude of less than 500 meters. The highest altitude in the territory is 551 meters. The climate is mild with four distinct seasons. The annual average temperature is 16.1 ℃ and the frost free period is 272 days. It belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate. The traffic of Mujiangping town is very convenient, and the zhiliu railway passes through the town.

Mujiangping town is located 27 kilometers to the east of the county, in the lower reaches of Tuojiang River, bordering Luxi County in the East and North, Mayang County in the South and Guanzhuang in the West. With an administrative area of 118.57 square kilometers (2017), the town governs 21 villages, 1 neighborhood committee, 105 villager groups, and 17635 people (2017). It is mainly Han nationality, inhabiting a minority of Miao and Tujia Nationalities, and is the only town with railway in the county.
