Junping town

Junping town is subordinate to Xupu County. It was called Junping town in 1956. It was changed into a commune in 1958, a township in 1984, and a restored town in 1985. It is located in the northwest of the county, 17 kilometers away from the county, with an area of 85 square kilometers and a population of 17235 (2017). The town government is stationed in Xianfeng, with roads connecting the county and most villages.

Junping town governs two neighborhood committees of Junping and Xinjian street, and 16 village committees of baiwutou, simaoping, laowuchang, shuitongwan, hujiaxi, laowangjie, wanglikeng, Xianfeng, Banxi, Xiangjiatang, laibowan, laoyaoshang, mingjiatang, yanluowan, Changping and wufengxi. The main agricultural product is paddy, and the territory is rich in coal resources.

In the north of the town, there is Wugui mountain, a famous mountain in Xupu. On the top of the mountain, there are a pair of natural stone turtles. Because of their aura, the ancestors have repeatedly blessed the village, so they built a Wugui temple for sacrifice, which is full of incense all the year round. It is said that Zhang Xianzhong rebelled in the end of Ming Dynasty and attacked Xupu on the day of Dragon Boat Festival. Before the festival, the officials and the people retreated to Wugui mountain. Because of the precipitous mountain and the narrow path, one man was in charge of the pass and ten thousand people could not open it. Moreover, the stone walls and wall stacks built by Zhang Xianzhong were high and easy to defend. Zhang could not attack for a long time. On the mountain, the officers and soldiers were compassionate. They hung white cloth to the bottom of the cliff, and Zhang Mei tied her waist and climbed. And climb to half cliff, mountain wind, train flying, revealing the waist white blade. The officers and soldiers were so surprised that they gave up their hands and xianzhongmei died on the cliff. The stalemate lasted for a long time, but the situation was not good. Zhang led the army to retreat, and the officials and the people were saved. Since then, the Dragon Boat Festival in Xupu is scheduled for the 15th day of the fifth lunar month. To the north of the town, there is a village named baiwutou. To the north of the village, there is the highest mountain in the town, named shamaogu. This mountain is the northwest vein of Xuefeng mountain, connecting Yuanling and Chenxi counties in the northwest, and Muxi Township in the northeast. With continuous peaks, lush forests and bamboo trees, you can have a panoramic view of the three counties. Sleeping in the bamboo forest at night, you can hear the crowing of chickens in the three counties. The most beautiful scenery in the county. There is an ancient temple at the top of the highest peak, which has been abandoned for some time. Now it has been rebuilt. There is a spring beside the temple. Although it is on the top of the isolated peak, the four seasons are always bubbling. The villagers think that they are gods and drink devoutly on the day of worshiping incense and Buddha.
