Gaosha town

Gaosha Town, known as Gaosha city in ancient times, has become a market town in Han Dynasty. It has always been a cultural center, transportation hub and one of the most important agricultural and sideline products distribution centers in Southwest Hunan. It has the largest production and marketing base of piglets, breeding pigs and Chinese pigs in Hunan Province and even in southern China, Guanlan academy, Qingyun academy, liaomei middle school, the first Folk Museum in Hunan Province, Gaosha culture and History Museum and national key cultural relics protection unit Zengbazhi, the largest ancestral temple in Hunan Province, is located here.

Gaosha town is located in the southwest of Hunan Province, in the west of Shaoyang City, 13 kilometers away from the county. It is the South Gate of Dongkou county. It has the largest population in Hunan Province. Evolution of organizational system

Gaosha town used to belong to Wugang. In the Western Han Dynasty, Liu Sui was the Marquis of Duliang, Gaosha belonged to Duliang state, and later changed its name to Duliang county. By the time of the Three Kingdoms, Duliang county was renamed Wugang County, and Gaosha belonged to Wugang county. From the 25th year of Qianlong (1760) of the Qing Dynasty to the revolution of 1911, Wugang set up a prefecture and was stationed in Gaosha. It was called Fenzhou yamen, which had jurisdiction over the whole territory of today's Dongkou county. In the 25th year of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1845), another thousand troops were stationed here, and Gaosha became the political, military, economic and cultural center of Wugang Prefecture and even Baoqing Prefecture. On February 24, 1952, with the approval of the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's government, the seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven and three districts in the north of Wugang county were divided into districts. On April 1, 1952, Dongkou county was established, and Gaosha district was under the jurisdiction of Dongkou county. hydrology

Nanshui (the left or west source of Zijiang River, an important tributary of the Yangtze River, formerly known as Duliang River) flows through the southeast corner of Gaosha town. Liaoshui River (also known as Gaosha River, Shizhu River and Wuyang River) is the river with the widest drainage area in the territory. It flows through the center of the town from west to East, flows through 17 villages on both sides, and flows into Nanshui at the mouth of ma'anshuang River, belonging to Zijiang River System.

History and Humanities

Gaosha Town, also known as "Gaosha city", is located on the alluvial plain of liaoshui river at the foot of Xuefeng mountain. In ancient times, the flood of liaoshui river was diverted. The terrain 8 km north to Xuefeng mountain tends to be flat, with open fields, mud and sand accumulation, high terrain, surrounded by mountains and water, and rich natural products. Therefore, "Gaosha" is named after it.

In accordance with the theory of Canyu and the art of astrology, the predecessors started from Longtoushi in the south to Maanshi in the north, reached mingyuezhai in the East and maopulang in the West. On the alluvial plain of the liaoshui River, which is about 10 km long and 4 km wide, they chose the geomantic omen land of "Jiuqu huiwan water and seven stars beside Mingyue" as the foundation for the development of high sand. Gaosha street was built in the Qin and Han Dynasties, and called the city in the Tang and Song dynasties. It reached its peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and flourished in the contemporary era. So far, it has a history of more than 1300 years. Wuli long street and prosperous smoky scenery are well-known in the north and south of the river as "little Nanjing".
