Dahewai township is under the jurisdiction of Leiyang City. In 1950, it was subordinate to 11 districts. In 1956, it was Dahe township. In 1958, it was Dahe commune. In 1984, it was rebuilt as a township.

Located in the northwest of the city, 25 kilometers away from the city government, with an area of 75 square kilometers and a population of 34000. The township government is stationed in daheuwei. Beijing Guangzhou railway, 107 National Road and Wuhan Guangzhou Railway Passenger Dedicated Line under construction run through the north and south. There are four polders in the township: Dahe polder, ZhangTian polder, chunjiangpu polder, Yajiang polder, two middle schools, two health centers, and one central primary school. The gross domestic product of the township is 109.2 million yuan, and the net income per capita is 2612 yuan. It has jurisdiction over 20 village committees including Wuhe, Shayuan, Xinli, fengle, Xinfang, qunyang, Lianhua, Chunjiang, Cungu, Douling, Maoquan, Aiqun, Yaodong, Yajiang, Qunle, Xinhua, Ronggong, Lutian, Lianmeng and ZhangTian. Township enterprises have wood processing, rice milling, casting, breeding, papermaking and agricultural and sideline products processing. The West Branch Canal of Ouyanghai Irrigation area flows through this area. Rich in rice, rape, fish.
