Pankou Township

Pankou township has a population of 21667 (2017) and an area of 82.87 square kilometers (2017). It has jurisdiction over eight village committees. Pankou Township, located in the western suburb of Zhushan County, Zhushan County, Shiyan City, Hubei Province, is named after Pankou river. It is adjacent to Chengguan town in the northeast, Yishui town in the West and tianjiaba town in the south. It is the location of Pankou hydropower station, Xiaoxuan hydropower station and 220kV substation in the county. The township covers an area of 82.87 square kilometers (in 2017), including 14140.4 mu of arable land, 7 villages (neighborhood committees), 33 villager groups and 21667 people (in 2017). Township government is located in Xiaoxuan neighborhood committee, 1 km away from the county.

Cultural relics

Paleolithic fossils have been found in the territory. Bricks, tiles and pottery of the Han Dynasty have been excavated in xuanguzhou and Xiaoxuan gujiachang. There are 6 cultural relics and historic sites in the territory, of which Huatuo temple is located in group 9, Yuling village, Pankou township. It was first built in the fourth year of Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty, and then repaired and added facilities in the sixth and twelfth years of Daoguang reign. The building is located in the northeast to the southwest. It is made of a cave at the cliff of Baiyun peak, which is artificially excavated and decorated. It is built in imitation of wood and stone structure. The stone carvings are exquisite in material selection, small and exquisite in shape and superb in skill.

Since ancient times, there have been many capable people in Pankou. In the 1960s, there was a national labor model Chen Zhengkuan in longwanggou village.
