Renzu Temple
Renzu Temple of Gushi County is located in Renzhu village of zhanglaobu Township, adjacent to Shihe River in the East and at the intersection of Shihe River and Yanghang river. It is said that it was built in memory of Fuxi. Fuxi, namely Taihao, surnamed Feng, was born more than 6000 years ago in Chengji (today's Tianshui, Gansu Province) and buried in wanqiu (today's Huaiyang, Henan Province). He is the tribal leader in ancient legend. According to legend, he created eight trigrams, divided into surnames, taught people fishing and animal husbandry, and was honored as "the first of the Three Emperors", "the first of the hundred kings" and the cultural ancestor of the Chinese nation. According to legend, in ancient times, Gonggong, the God of water, and zhurong, the God of fire, had a war. Gonggong was defeated and furious. He bumped his head into mount Buzhou and knocked down the pillar of Zhitian, which caused the collapse of the sky and the earth, the torrent of water, the darkness of the sky, the cannibalism of beasts, and the death of all the people. Only Fuxi and his sister Nuwa were left. Later, brother and sister got married and became the ancestor of human beings. in order to change the living environment, Nu Wa began to make up for the sky. Nu Wa went to the South China Sea to pick up Nantou with five colored stones and never came back. In order to find Nuwa, Fuxi traveled southward from Jizhou to the West Bank of Shihe River in zhanglaobu township of Gushi County. He was seriously ill and could not continue southward. He lived here to recuperate. In memory of this human ancestor, people here built a ancestral temple in the place where he was ill, and built a platform to look forward to his return. Later generations will sacrifice this human ancestor. During the people's ancestral temple meeting on February 26 of the lunar calendar, the rulers of the dynasty poured in from all directions. They burn incense, burn paper and kowtow to worship, which is unprecedented. Renzu temple was originally a courtyard with four entrances. On the 90m long north-south central axis, there are: wuchaomen, taijimen, bell tower, theater tower, renzu hall, Xianren hall, bedroom hall, Bagua altar, etc. the houses are made of green bricks and grey tiles, stone pillars, sandalwood carvings and paintings, cornices and angles, forming a large-scale ancient architectural complex. Renzu temple was built in the late Qing Dynasty, but it was still relatively complete. After war, it was gradually damaged and disappeared completely during the cultural revolution. Only on the old site can we see ancient bricks and tiles, residual stone carvings and so on. Nevertheless, people's admiration for Fuxi, the ancestor of human beings, did not decline because the temple did not exist. people's reverence and spiritual sustenance for human ancestors is not only a form of sacrifice, but also a great tourism potential. In order to save cultural heritage and meet people's needs for ancestor worship and tourism, the township party committee and government, through attracting investment, restored and rebuilt the ancestral temple and developed the humanistic landscape in 2002. Renzu temple will be developed into a humanistic landscape integrating tourism, sightseeing, sacrifice, shopping and leisure, and will be built into a base for national spirit education.
