Dongtun town is located 30 kilometers northwest of Yanjin County, 15 kilometers east of Xinxiang City, 7 kilometers south of Weihui City, and 3 kilometers north of national Xinxiang Industrial Park, with excellent transportation and communication conditions. The town covers an area of 41.87 square kilometers and has a population of 33478 (2017). In 2015, it was rated as one of the first batch of national key demonstration small towns in Henan Province.

It has jurisdiction over 24 administrative villages, including dongtun village, shuihuabao village, jijinpu village, Changbao village, DongCui village, xitui village, Xiwu village, Dongwu village, Liuzhuang village, dongzhangshitun village, xizhangshitun village, qianzhuangli village, houzhuangli village, Xitun village, Dongzhuang village, Dawangzhuang village, Huzhuang village, haoguangtun village, Xiaowangzhuang village, xiaoyangzhuang village, Xiaotun village, Datun village, Zhengzhuang village and zhaojingzhuang village 33478 (2017). In 2011, the town's GDP was 160 million yuan, the added value of agriculture was 52.38 million yuan, the added value of township enterprises was 130 million yuan, the financial revenue was 3.565 million yuan, the per capita net income of farmers was 6300 yuan, and the natural growth rate of population was 5.6 ‰.

Dongtun town has more than 30000 mu of wasteland water and grass resources, and 8000 mu of "three high demonstration fields". In 2001, the total output of grain was 20000 tons, cotton 700 tons and oil 2300 tons. In 2001, the planting area of high-quality special strong gluten wheat reached 30000 mu; a thousand shed vegetable production area was initially built; more than 2000 mu of high-quality small fruits were developed; and an ecological forestry park was built.

The aquaculture industry has initially formed scale characteristic aquaculture and become the aquaculture base in Northern Henan. In 2001, more than 2000 mu of water surface for fish, duck and goose farming was developed, with an annual output of 2 million kg of various high-quality aquatic products. Two 10000 duck farms and three 10000 chicken farms were built, and 650 specialized breeding households were set up, with an output value of more than 8 million yuan. In 2000, it was named "characteristic town" by Xinxiang Municipal Party committee and municipal government.

Dongtun town is close to the national Xinxiang Xiaodian industrial park with superior geographical location. It passes provincial highway S307, S308 and Changji expressway. Every village is connected by township highway. With the eastward movement of Xinxiang City, it has gradually moved towards urbanization. Dongtun community and Xitun community have been established one after another, and have gradually become the representative towns of the new socialist countryside.

In August 2015, the provincial government issued the implementation plan for the construction demonstration project of key towns in Henan Province. According to the requirements of controlling the quantity, improving the quality, saving land and reflecting the characteristics, dongtun town was elected as the first batch of key demonstration towns in Henan Province to accelerate the construction and scientifically promote the development of new urbanization.
