Laiji town is located in the middle of Xinmi City, Henan Province, in the center of nine urban agglomerations in Henan Province. It is 33 kilometers away from Zhengzhou in the northeast, 47 kilometers away from Kaifeng in the East, 78 kilometers away from Luoyang in the west, and 49 kilometers away from Shaolin Temple. It covers an area of 63 square kilometers. There are Neolithic sites, malianggou site, Yaowang temple, Yangye temple, Fuxi Nuwa temple, etc.

Laiji commune was established in 1973. In December 1983, Laiji commune was abolished and Laiji township was established. In March 1995, Laiji township was withdrawn to build a town. In 1997, with an area of 62 square kilometers and a population of 52000, it has jurisdiction over 21 administrative villages including Laiji, Chengou, Yuegang, hanjiamen, Peigou, magou, Yuegang, wangjiawo, zhaipo, Wangtang, huishuting, mawuzhai, yangjiamen, Lucun, Huangzhai, Songzhai, Litang, dongyugou, xiyugou, Gonglou and Zhaogou.

Laiji is rich in resources, with many kinds of mineral products, large reserves and high grade. In 2008, 18 kinds of mineral products have been proved, and 8 kinds of coal, bauxite, gangue soil, limestone, phosphate rock and silicate have been mined. Among them, the coal reserves are extremely rich, with underground reserves of more than 200 million tons and annual mining capacity of 3 million tons. Laiji is one of the largest coal production and marketing bases in Xinmi City, and its daily sales volume is high Nearly 10000 tons of high-quality coal.
