In 1087, Shijiu belonged to Rizhao town. Jindading 24 years (1184), set Rizhao County, Shijiu town. In August 1948, Shijiu town was changed into Shijiu district. In December 1992, Rizhao City was divided into districts and counties, and Donggang District was established as the administrative region of Rizhao City. Shijiu street was subordinate to Donggang District. As of June 2020, Shijiu street has 30 communities under its jurisdiction.

Shijiu street is high in the middle and low in the periphery with small slope. It is adjacent to the Yellow Sea and hills in the West. Shijiu coastline, with a total length of 6 km, starts from donghaiyu in the South and ends at wanpingkou in the north. It is a relatively straight bedrock sandy coast. In this section, the coast protrudes, and the land sea boundary forms a bay. The bedrock mountain area is close to the coast of this section, and the denudation surface of the sea mouth and the front of the mountain becomes the headland and the underwater reef beach. The protruding coast is shijiuzui, and the bay between the mouths is sandy arc beach. And the bay area is large, forming a small sandbank lagoon coast.

The most serious one occurred from the night of August 19 to the morning of August 20, 1997, with a strong wind of magnitude 9-10 and a sea wind of magnitude 12. It was the most serious one in Rizhao's modern history. From the side of Shijiu ocean station to the gale of 30 m / s, the high tide level is 5.74 m, and the maximum wave height is 7.1 m, which are the big wave level high tide levels once in a hundred years. Shellfish and kelp in Shijiu sea area were almost destroyed. According to incomplete statistics, more than 1200 acres of shrimp ponds were destroyed by typhoon. To the south of the port construction gate, the main road can't get in and out, and the whole port is flooded with water up to 1 meter, resulting in a direct economic loss of more than 6 million yuan.
