Cultural relics

At the end of 1999, Xixue village, Xue ancestral temple and other historic sites in Yuanbao town of Weixian county were approved as county cultural protection units. There are two portraits hanging in the middle of the ancestral hall of Xue family. In the portraits, the man is Xue. He was a Jinshi in the ninth year of Ming Dynasty and an official in Lianghuai. He is an important figure in the history of Xue family and Weixian county. His ancestor Xue Yi left 208 calligraphy and paintings. The collection is called practice, which records various scenes of Xue's official period, including the event of local people building "going to think steles and going to think Pavilions" for him when Xue was the magistrate of Jixi County, as well as the congratulatory works presented by officials and celebrities from other provinces. After expert appraisal, this batch of calligraphy and painting is of great historical significance. But in 2005, these paintings disappeared. According to the investigation, Xue's descendants have not seen these calligraphy and paintings for four years. Calligraphy and painting all came to the hands of a man named Cui Aimin. When Cui Aimin got the calligraphy and painting, he was the director of the County Cultural Museum and the director of the Cultural Protection Institute. The tablets of "county-level cultural relics protection units" still stand in the Xue ancestral temple and Xue cemetery. The descendants of Xue said that the handwriting on the tablets was written by Cui Aimin, then director of the County Cultural Museum and director of the County Cultural Protection Institute. A book on the protection of historical sites and cultural relics such as Xixue village and Xue ancestral temple in Wei County, which is stamped with the seal of Wei county cultural relics protection and administration office, clearly states that Xue's calligraphy and paintings are one of the cultural relics protection projects.

The fate of Xuejia's calligraphy and painting in Yuanbao town has become a major event in Wei county's cultural circle. Although Wei County, a thousand year old county, has a long history, there are not many historical relics handed down to future generations. At the Weixian Cultural Protection Institute, only 5 cultural relics have been classified by 2008. The loss of so many precious calligraphy and paintings will be a great loss to the culture of Wei county. The loss of the Xue family's calligraphy and paintings has sounded an alarm for the folk collection. Local cultural workers believe that as a common item of the family, the preservation method needs to be improved. If the preserver moves these calligraphy and paintings, he should have permission from other members of the family. As of July 2008, these paintings have not been found.
