The origin of place names

Baizhang street gets its name because Baizhang road runs through the whole area. Baizhang Road, commonly known as Baizhang street, once known as Shiyong street, Baizhang street, mihang street, Maifan bridge and Maixi bridge, is one of the oldest commercial streets in Ningbo. In the old days, it was 99.7 Zhang long from Lingqiao (floating bridge) to mihang bridge, so it was named Baizhang street. In 1934, the river was reclaimed to build a road, extending to Maixi bridge in the East, which is called Baizhang road. In 1965, Baizhang road was rebuilt into asphalt road, and later renamed "Hongwei East Road". In 1981, it was restored to its original name.
