Bao'an is the root of Shenzhen Hong Kong culture. Since the establishment of Baoan County in the sixth year of Xianhe (331 A.D.) in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Guangfu culture and Hakka customs have been complementing each other for more than 1600 years. Wen Tianxiang's "three crossing the dingyang River" left immortal poems; Fengyan ancient temple is famous and full of incense; the tomb of Huang Shu, the famous filial son, the oyster shell house, Fenghuang tower, Wenchang Pavilion, Yongxing bridge, Zeng's ancestral hall and so on, carry the long history of humanity and revolution in Bao'an; up to now, Bao'an has a long history of eating "potted vegetables", dancing Qilin, dragon boat racing and worshipping Yangquan mountain climbing, Hakka folk songs and other distinctive folk activities. Baoan has nurtured the "Oriental Pearl" Hongkong and the "overnight famous city" Shenzhen, which is open to reform and opening up. Today, Hong Kong's Kowloon Walled City is still engraved with the vicissitudes of Bao'an's history.
In 2018, the region's GDP will reach 361.218 billion yuan. Bao'an District ranked the 8th among China's top 100 industrial districts in 2018, and was selected into China's top 100 industrial districts in 2017 and 2018.
