Hekou Yao Autonomous County Hekou Yao Autonomous County is located in the southeast of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, facing Laojie city and Guliu city of Vietnam across the red river. It is the only autonomous county with Yao as the main body in Yunnan Province. Hekou County has very convenient transportation. Yunnan Vietnam Railway, Kunhe highway and Honghe waterway form a hub here to connect with Vietnam. It is the most convenient land passage from Yunnan Province to Southeast Asia and the South Pacific. Since the opening to the outside world, Hekou County has vigorously developed port economy and trade, and established a good economic cooperation relationship with Laojie province of Vietnam.
On January 22, 2020, it was named National Garden County by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development.
Historical evolution
In Han Dynasty, it belonged to Jinsang county. In the Ming Dynasty, it was the Chief Secretary of Wang Long Mountain in Lin'an Prefecture. In 1897, the Hekou flood control office was set up. In 1926, Hekou was designated as a special administrative region,
Hekou city was established in 1950. Red and white rivers meet here, so they are named. Hekou County was changed in 1955 and Hekou Yao Autonomous County in 1963.
In 2000, Hekou Yao Autonomous County governed two towns and four townships: Hekou Town, Nanxi Town, Yaoshan Township, lianhuatan Township, Laofanzhai Township, Qiaotou Miao and Zhuang township.
